My Girl the River are very excited to return to the Half Moon on their Manifest Good Things tour.
Bringing a full band to London and featuring songs from the new album, expect an Americana/ folk/ roots sound with a bit more jangle and sway. Described as songs about growing up and showing up, people have expressed a love for the early singles such as Heavy and Without You.
A gig that will definitely stay with you. Kris 'wants to bring the joy' and allow the audience to immerse themselves fully in the energy of the night. 'We are there for them. And I love performing these songs with the band so if I am having fun, we're all gonna have a great time!' From touching acoustic moments to full blown sing-a-longs, expect the unexpected.
My Girl The River is the work of Louisiana songwriter and performer/producer Kris Wilkinson Hughes. Along with her husband, bassist and writer Joe Hughes they bring ear worm hooks, singable melodies and 'sugared espresso' vocals. Drums, guitar and keys round out the band.

My Girl The River is the creation of Louisiana native Kris Wilkinson Hughes and British bassist/writer Joe Hughes. ‘Stunning’ and ‘up there with Lucinda, kd lang, Eva Cassidy and Gillian Welch’ are just two of the comments being batted around the debut album ‘This Ain’t No Fairytale.’ The album features some of the best players in Americana today (Jonathan Byrd, Jacob Lundby, Will Kimbrough, Max Milligan). Anecdotes, half-truths, fables and lies are woven into an incredible set of material. You will hear Kris present these stories to you in only a way she can, with humour, heart and soul and an unforgettable voice described as 'sugared espresso'. Comparisons to Jason Isbell, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Suzanne Vega and Karen Carpenter. They have been asked to perform at this year’s Isle of Wight festival solely based on the album, it’s that good. Performing in the past at The Stables with Laura Cantrell and Cale Tyson, they have just completed a four date sell out theatre tour with Suzanne Vega, and have been invited back to the Isle of Wight Festival. It’s been a busy year for critically acclaimed musician and songwriter Sadie Jemmett. In March she released her politically charged song ‘Don’t Silence Me’ in support of her friend, Hollywood actress, Mhairi Morrison, a victim of a sexual assault by a French film director.
The powerful video was picked-up by the #metoo movement, received international press coverage, as well as 140k views on social media, and has been ‘dubbed an anthem for our age’.
Sadie now releases her new album ‘Phoenix’ on TwoUpTwoDown Records/Absolute Universal.
The album, with its wide range of subject matters and topics, showcases Sadie’s dexterity as a musician and a lyricist. She sensitively touches on ideas of love, loss, and remembrance whilst approaching the more political numbers on the track list with a sense of confident defiance. The album also gives Sadie the opportunity to display her true vocal talents and an impressive delivery that enhances her reputation as not only a great songwriter but a great singer too.
Phoenix was recorded at Baker Studios on Vancouver Island with producer Joby Baker, of Cowboy Junkies fame. The studio has a first-class reputation because of its analogue set-up and the album’s production quality is a reminder of classic soul and blues records on iconic labels such as Stax or Chess.
“What I like about ‘Phoenix’ is that I can see my development as a songwriter. With my previous albums I wrote from quite an introspective and confessional place, but most of the songs on Phoenix are written through observation and trying to reflect what is happening in the world today. At the same time, it is important to me that people listening to the album can interpret these songs from their own personal perspective,” said Sadie.
