We're delighted to announce the first of our Black Deer Live monthly series celebrating the best of Americana; that perfect blend of great songwriting and skilled musicianship. Music with soul and integrity, songs of heartache and joy.

This month we feature an unforgettable lineup with Beau Bennett opening at 7.20pm, Anya Marina on at 8.10pm, with Gia Ford and full band at 9.30pm.

Black Deer Festival of Americana began back in 2018 with headline acts such as Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, The Teskey Brothers, Rufus Wainwright, The Pretenders, Robert Plant, Seasick Steve, Calexico.

Along with our monthly Black Deer Live sessions, we are delighted to announce there will be a Half Moon stage at the very first Black Deer In The City, taking place at Tobacco Dock, 25 & 26 October. This stage will be hosting our favourite grassroots artists including Maya Lane, Nathan O'Regan, Gina Larner, Naomi Campbell, Jonny Morgan, Cara Hammond, Beau Bennett and Charlotte Carpenter.

Line Up

A murderous girl with a spine of steel. An asteroid hurtling toward a ruminating woman. Shards of glass leading to a dark, friendly place.

Welcome to the provocative vision of singer-songwriter Anya Marina’s stunning new album Asteroid, her most assured work yet. Almost two decades into a distinctive career encompassing songs featured in Twilight: New Moon, Gossip Girl, and Grey’s Anatomy, an award-winning web series (Anya Marina: Indie-pendent Woman), seven albums, three EPs, and extensive touring with artists ranging from Jason Mraz to Spoon to superstar standup Nikki Glaser, the riveting performer / creative powerhouse is looking back, taking stock in song. Marina calls Asteroid “a coming-of-age story about a late bloomer. This record is about growing up, becoming fully who I am, and celebrating it.”

With Asteroid, Marina feels comfortable in her own skin at last, excited to begin again. “Something about these songs feels young,” she says. “I’m finally learning how to take care of myself, how to say no to certain things, how to be more involved in the recording process. I wanted to make the album of my life. And I’ve done that, hands down.”

Rising star Gia Ford is giving a voice to the underdogs and outsiders with her immersive music. Hailing from Sheffield, the young talent fell in love with the arts at a young age, with the ‘Poolside’ singer developing a passion for poetry and songwriting. As she got older, Gia found solace in the likes of Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac, Nick Cave and Dusty Springfield, who helped her develop a deeper appreciation for multilayered lyricism. The ‘Alligator’ singer also honed her craft by performing at open mic nights in Brighton and travelling to London to meet other like-minded artists.

In 2020, Gia made her official debut with her track ‘Sleeping In Your Garden,’ a haunting record that set the stage for her mesmerising storytelling. Since then, the emerging talent has released dynamic singles that have showcased different facets of her artistry while indirectly prepping fans for her biggest story yet, her debut album Transparent Things out on 13 September, produced by Tony Berg (Boygenius, Phoebe Bridgers). Described as an “immersive collection,” each track on the album is set to explore the intricate tales of “the downtrodden to the downright dangerous”.

From supporting artists such as Ralph McTell at The Royal Albert Hall, to sell out shows throughout the UK, Beau Bennett is making big strides into the music scene. Her spine-tingling vocals and emotion fuelled lyricism sit at the helm of her work, with musical arrangements credited to her vibrant band, it’s no shock they are mercilessly growing in popularity.

Their debut single ‘Apricity’ crowned as BBC Introducing’s ‘Track-of-the-Week’ was the arrival gates for the bands journey, securing them a summer of UK venues and festivals, such as Boardmasters, Tunes in the Dunes and Black Deer festival.

With a full EP released early 2025, Beau Bennett is lighting up the independent music scene with a fresh, energetic sound that makes for nothing short of a euphoric live experience.
