The Monochrome Set
It's 40 years since The Monochrome Set formed and the legendary band are on the road once more, bringing their hook-crammed melodies and dark sense of humour to the Half Moon once again.
Featuring original members Bid (Guitar/Vocals) and Andy Warren (bass) with John Paul Moran (keyboards) and Mike Urban, who was previously in the band in the early 90s, on drums. The Monochrome Set formed in 1978 and were heavily influential in the 'post-punk' scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk. The band's early releases were on the legendary Rough Trade Label before signing with Virgin offshoot Din Disc. They also released several albums on the Cherry Red label, making a notable appearance onthat labels' well known 'Pillows and Prayers' compilation.
Though The Monochrome Set split in 1985 the next decade saw several reunions for both live gigs and further studio recordings, their album release count now being well into double figures. After a hiatus of over a decade the band reformed full time in 2010 and have since toured all over the UK, Europe, Japan and the USA, whilst also releasing four new, critically acclaimed, studio albums. This year, 2018, is the fortieth anniversary of the band's formation and they will be releasing a box set of their first four albums to celebrate this in February, that month will also see the release of their fourteenth, new, studio album, 'Maisieworld', both on the German label 'Tapete'.
The Fallen Leaves
The Fallen Leaves are a British garage rock group that formed in Richmond, London in 2004. The group was formed by guitarist Rob Symmons from Subway Sect and vocalist Rob Green now with Brett "Buddy" Ascott from the Chords on drums and bassist Matthew Karas. Purveyors of pop played with passion rather than precision, the Fallen Leaves are very much based around Rob Symmons' distinctive discordant, stinging guitar sound as well as Rob Green's vocal style, reminiscent of Italian-American crooners such as Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. The Fallen Leaves hark back to DIY punk days and classic British beat such as The Who, Kinks, and Rolling Stones have been cited as influences, as well as The Pretty Things, The Outsiders and the Downliners Sect.
Band Of The Underhand
Band Of The Underhand is made up if five, long term, friends who are influenced by The Clash, Bob Dylan, The Waterboys and Perry Keyes. Finding they were not always able to play as a five piece they have chosen to go out in a variety of acoustic configurations, from solo to a full band, recently supporting Alabama 3 (solo from singer Dave Underhand) and The Theatre of Hate (duo). This way of working means they are always able to play live gigs, even if a member is away, and was advantageous when they recently appeared twice on RT's 'Going Underground' show. They have released a seven track, live, mini album and are currently in the process of recording their first album.
